Event #3: Museum of Natural History

For my third event, I visited the museum of Natural History in Los Angeles. This was my first time visiting. I really enjoyed viewing all of the displays, I spent a large amount of my time there in the dinosaur exhibitions because I find them particularly interesting. I learned a lot about the ancient history of the planet and about the time periods of when the dinosaurs were alive.

All of the displays were really captivating and artistic, many were colorful and aesthetically pleasing to look at. Science and art are so visibly interrelated in the exhibitions and displays at this museum, and I was constantly thinking about how this museum relates to some topics learned in this class. I enjoyed viewing the displays of the dinosaurs, and these reminded me a lot of the "Night at the Museum" movies.

I also visited the Dino Lab within the museum. Here, I was able to see real scientists and paleontologists working on fossils. I observed a paleontologist work on cleaning dirt and other remains from a new fossil they had found that dates back to about 145 million years ago, which I found very interesting.

I also saw the portrait of the Vitruvian man in the museum, and I remembered when we learned about the Vitruvian man for this class. I was able to make the connection from what we learned in class about the Vitruvian man, and I pointed out that this image was made using important mathematical and geometric concepts and symmetries, like the Golden Ratio.

Overall, I had a great experience at the museum of natural history, and would definitely recommend going to visit there, especially because they have student discounts when you show your school ID.
